During the summer, I try to learn to do something new.
I have learned to make sourdough bread this summer.
Every Sunday evening I take out my starter, feed it, and let it
sit on the counter overnight and grow. It makes 3 loaves of bread.
I have also made homemade hot dog and hamburger buns and my
favorite cinnamon rolls!
I got my starter from one of my student's grandmother.
She baked me a loaf of bread as an end of school gift
and it was amazing. She told me she had been making
sourdough bread for years, and she brought me some starter.
There are tons of youtube videos on how to make this
bread if you are interested. I have to give some of the bread
away or I will eat it all. Hubby is gluten-free so he can't have it.
Homemade bread is so much cheaper than "store-bought"
and the taste is superior to any I have ever got out of a
plastic bag. If you go to Whole Foods, their sourdough
is over four dollars a loaf.
This summer I have also started taking all my photos
on manuel setting. Trying to take food shots is
really difficult but I am trying hard to make them
better than ones on auto.
